Official signing of the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation New Grant RMB 70 million By the Government of Tonga and the Government of the People’s Republic of China
Today marks another auspicious occasion whereby the Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Rev. Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa on behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga and His Excellency Ambassador Cao Xiaolin,
on behalf of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, further strengthen their bilateral relationship through the signing of an Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation of RMB 70 million (approximately TOP$24.5 million) as a new grant for Tonga.
This new grant will be available for the Government of Tonga, to fund priority projects agreed to by both Governments.
Tonga-China ties has become stronger with over 20 years of warm diplomatic relations, which started back in 1998.
There has been fruitful cooperation in Politics, Economy, Trade, Health Care, Agriculture and Education. There have also been large infrastructure investments such as the St. George Government Building, Tonga High School construction and Fa’onelua Convention Centre.
