The Hon. Minister for Education, Hon. Mo'ale Otunuku, met with Mr. Nakhafi Hassan, Alternate Executive Director for the South-East Asia Group at the World Bank Group, during his official visit to Tonga.
The meeting focused on the progress of World Bank-funded education project under the Ministry of Education, particularly the Tonga Safe and Resilient Schools Project (TSRSP). Discussions focused on the project's current implementation challenges and practical actions to improve project delivery.
Mr. Hassan was accompanied by Ms. 'Ilaisaane Lolo, Advisor to the Alternate Executive Director, who also participated in the discussions.
As part of the visit, the delegation visited Government Middle School Kolomotu'a (GMS Kolomotu'a), one of the schools supported under the TSRSP. A welcoming programme was held with the Chief Executive Officer for Education, Dr. Isikeli Oko, the school principal, teachers, students, government representatives, and the TSRSP Project Manager.
The visit reaffirmed the World Bank's continued partnership with Tonga in supporting safe, resilient, and inclusive learning environments for students across the Kingdom.
