NUKU'ALOFA, TONGA — 27 October 2026

The Ministry of Finance recently convened a Development Partners Forum to discuss key development challenges with key partners and financiers of the country’s national budget. It provided a timely opportunity to strengthen collaboration and align development support to Tonga's national priorities under the Tonga Strategic Development Framework 2035.

The Hon. Minister of Finance Sivoki Lavemaau emphasized the importance of coordinated partnerships in responding to emerging challenges, including inflation, fuel price pressures and the El Niño drought conditions that are currently affecting the country’s livelihoods.

Discussions also highlighted the need to address project implementation constraints through regular engagements, joint accountability and improved readiness capacity.

As preparations begin for the FY2027/28 Budget, the Minister encouraged practical recommendations from the Forum towards strengthening the Ministry of Finance’s role in development coordination and strategic resource allocation towards delivering tangible outcomes for the intended beneficiaries – the citizens of this country.
