Day 2 & 3 of Tonga's participation at the 2026 IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, continued with high-level engagements with the Vice President of the Asian Development Bank, International Monetary Fund and World Bank constituencies, Women Finance Ministers leaders, Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action, and Pacific leaders. Discussions focussed on the disproportionate impacts of climate change, energy price shocks, inflation, and El Niño on Tonga’s economy, emphasizing the need for accessible climate finance, stronger public financial management systems, and greater private sector investment. Tonga also highlighted the need for more effective project implementation, stressing that development financing should be measured by tangible outcomes for citizens rather than disbursement rates alone. And joining the Governor of the National Reserve Bank of Tonga, advocated the need for preservation of correspondent banking relationships, and practical solutions that strengthen economic resilience.
